We woke up early to enjoy our nice view of the sunrise over Mt. Vesuvius, snapped a few pics, and took advantage of the free breakfast with coffee! After some deliberation we figured it would be best to check out the ruins of Pompeii. There was an aussie couple and a girl from New Zealand that we ran into at check out that were heading that way so we tagged along with them.

The bus ride from Naples to Pompeii was quick; we absorbed some of the beautful scenary as well as some travel tips from our new friends who had just spent some time in Vietnam.
The city of Pompeii was, in its day, a vacation spot for the wealthy Romans. The streets were made of these massive uneven stones which made walking a challenge. Most of the ruins looked similar, not to say that they were not impressive just some areas were better preserved than others. More specifically the building made for washing wool which had a pretty elaborate design. We read
that urine was used in the cleaning process and was actually taxed and sold as a commodity. One of the coolest parts of the grounds was the olloseum/arena, not because of the mass bloodshed that took place before the volcano tore up the town, but according to our new friend Pink Floyd played a show there in the 70’s…
Pretty sick right? We snapped a bunch of photos of the area and of course took a shot of the bodies that were preserved in the ash (they poured liquid plaster into the indentation in the ash to make it solid).
I am so grateful for your article.Much thanks again. Great.
Thanks for the positive feedback.. we are certainly thinking about making more destination blogs instead of the journal style entries
